THE CHALLENGE

UNDERFUNDED

Black-owned businesses often start with 1/3 the capital of other businesses, according to Crunchbase. Black startups only receive ~1% of venture capital, says Harvard Business Review.

LIMITED NETWORK

Despite progress, many Black entrepreneurs still face extra challenges when developing professional networks — the often means the unwritten rules, opportunities and financing aren’t accessible to Black entrepreneurs.

EARLY TRACTION

To access financing, entrepreneurs must show traction. The challenges facing Black entrepreneurs often means traction looks different when compared to non-Black business. As a result, storytelling, social proof, and visibility is important for entrepreneurs to get the benefit of the doubt when seeking financing.

LACK OF ADVISORS

Black entrepreneurs and creatives don’t lack the desire to be successful but need the technical advice along the way to scale their operations and revenue. There is a gap in advanced guidance for Black entrepreneurs, so that the businesses they start can continue to be successful.

MISSION

BLAVITY.org empowers Black entrepreneurs to create generational wealth through education, storytelling, and Black Gravity
